How to water a newly seeded lawn...
Proper watering is the key to a successful
lawn. The first two weeks are the most
critical. Watering should be done as often
as needed to keep the top 1 inch or more of
the surface wet. This could be watering the
area for 40 minutes with a sprinkler twice a
day. You can not water too much in the first
2 weeks, but after that time the grass needs
oxygen at an equal rate to water. Watering
should be reduced by 1/2 at this time.
Fertilizing should be considered as early as
4 weeks after installing the seed. This will
develop the root growth and thicken the
amount of grass shoots.
Summary: 1-14 days: Water 40 minutes in each
area with a sprinkler up to twice a day.
15-28 days: Water less often by half. 29 +
days: Fertilize to insure a healthy, dense
growing lawn. |

Grass seed germinates best when the soil
temperature gets up around 50 degrees F.
Boxelder bugs get their name because of
their appetite for Boxelder tree seed pods. |
